The best golf courses for holidays around Salzburg - Mondsee - Fuschl

Mondsee golf club
Bring your swimmers, as a unique feature of the Club is a diving board from the changing rooms that leads out into the lake!

Mondsee
Architect: M. G. Lamberg (1986).
18 holes: 6220m: Par 72.
Mondsee is the quintessential Austrian Lakes Golf Course. It sits around its own little offshoot of the large lake of Mondsee, tinted an improbable azur by the metallic salts of the mountain springs.
The established course through natural parkland in the shadow of the Drachen (Dragon) Mountains then builds to a nail-biting climax over the last four holes. In fact when you stand on the 15th Tee, you might prefer just to swim back to the Clubhouse!

Gut AltentaNn
Architect: J. Nicklaus (1989)
18 holes: 6103m: Par 72.
One of the finest courses in Austria.
A huge investment in building the course under Jack's watchful eye has resulted in a masterful test of golf. As you might expect, a US style course, fairly hilly in one or two places, encircled by Salzburg's rolling pastures: an Austrian Open course.
Excellent Clubhouse and a well-to-do Membership (best played mid-week).

Gut Altentann golf course
Eugendorf golf course

Eugendorf
Architect: M. Wallner (1992).
18 holes: 6075m: Par: 72.
A heavily scultptured course atop the broad dome of the Eugendorf rise.
Lakes, railways sleepers, stone-walls,embankments, bridges, semi-island greens - quite a set-up!

Salzkammergut
Architect: (1933).
18 holes: 5673m: Par 71.
One of the very first Austrian courses, in fact Edward VIII used to play here in the thirties.  Created before the current trend for earthmoving, so the holes follow the natural contours of the land; i.e. fairly hilly in places.  The Membership are fiercely proud of the place they hold in the history of Austrian golf and this well maintained course provides a good contrast to the more recent layouts around.

Other courses within striking distance:

Fuschl
There is a 9-hole course at Fuschl beside the lake and the stunning Schloss Fuschl hotel (see Golf Par Gold). Quite a hilly course but handy if you are travelling to/from Salzburg or staying at the Schloss Fuschl.Zell-am-See
Any of the courses around Zell-am-See can be driven to in around an hour.
