Hotel du Golf Médoc***

A very well thought out and designed hotel that offers the wayfaring golfer pretty much everything he or she could desire.

A new, totally modern, hotel has been built adjoining the existing Clubhouse at the Médoc Golf Club. As part of the re-modelling process the existing Clubhouse has been re-shaped and now the hotel and Clubhouse are joined seamlessly offering the residents at the hotel easy access to the Clubhouse, the courses and the extensive practice facilities.

The bedrooms are a fair size and have nicely appointed rooms: miniu-bars, flat screen tv's, air-conditioning, hair-dryers, even tea and coffee making facilities. They also have bright baahrooms (with powerful showers rather than baths). One of the very little details is a specially designed rack by the door for two sets of clubs - very convenient!

The bar and restaurant are on the first floor and connect the hotel to the Clubhouse via the sunny patio that overlooks the Chateaux course. This makes it very easy to move around from bedroom to 1st Tee with the minimum of fuss.

On the ground floor you will find the indoor pool, steam room and spa area. Here, various beauty and relaxation therapies are available, including the "Albatross massage" when you will be treated with golf balls!

Relais de Margaux****Luxe

Situated in a corner of the Château Margaux estate the Relais de Margaux is the perfect spot for mixing the grape and the green. With its own golf course due to open in early 2006, a fabulous new Spa building now open, it really does have everything you might need for total relaxation.

A four star “luxe” hotel (the highest possible French rating) the Relais has a variety of individually styled rooms. The restaurant has an extensive menu featuring many of the local Aquitaine specialities such as preserved duck, goose and foie gras. As you might expect in this region there’s also a rather interesting wine list...

For the best advice on which vineyards and Châteaux to visit the hotel staff will be happy to point you in the direction of both the major producers and a few hidden gems.

Chateau Chartrons****

If you would prefer to stay in the centre of Bordeaux then the four star Chateau Chartrons is a very characterful building right by the Quai des Chartrons from where Bordeaux wines have been shipped for centuries.  From here the whole of Bordeaux is at your feet.  It will take a little longer to get out of town to the courses, but Bordeaux is quite an easy city to navigate and it will not take long to get your bearings.

The hotel itself was once the offices, storehouse and wine cellar of a wine shipping company, so since Victorian times it has been directly involved with Bordeaux most famous export.  Many vestiges of this role remain, such as the grape press and odd barrel dotted around.  In fact if you would like to visit the cellars and taste a few wines with the Sommelier we can arrange this for you.

The hotel has 150 rooms in total in three categories; standard, superior and suites.  All are air conditioned and have mini-bars, satellite TV, etcetera.

The restaurant at the Chartrons "Le Chais Saint Louis" has its own entrance off the main street and serves classical Bordelaise cuisine (plenty of Duck, walnuts and Foie Gras) with a slight Basque influence here and there.  Naturally, there is a huge choice of local wines to accompany your dinner.

Château des Vigiers****

East of Bordeaux, in the Dordogne, you will find the Château des Vigiers. Dating from 1597 the original buildings have been enlarged into a hotel with stylish rooms, antique furnishings, exquisite cuisine, and some luscious wines made from the very vines you play through!

The hotel has a choice of restaurants: fine dining or brasserie style. The golf course designed by Donald steel (6003 metres par 72), passes through the vineyards and plum orchards, with the accent clearly on enjoyment both of the game and the setting. Our prices are based on the Château rooms other types are available.

"Thanks for a great trip to the Relais de Margaux, the hotel and Médoc area are lovely.  My girlfriend made full use of the Spa whilst I was out on the course - a perfect combination!"
