Palazzo Arzaga - The resort
In the hills around to the West, but not far from Lake Garda, the imposing 15th Century Palazzo Arzaga is nowadays a truly luxurious and slightly secretive hideaway.
The Palazzo is arranged around a central square courtyard in classical Italian architectural style, with the reception, bar, restaurants and sitting rooms occupying the ground floor and the superior sleeping accommodation above (standard rooms are in the ‘Residenza’ outbuildings.
The whole Palazzo is furnished with genuine antiques and where the original frescoes no longer persist tapestries have been hung to clothe the mason’s work. Outside there is a more modern feel to the patios, the pool area with its solid wooden sun-loungers and the golf course extending out from beneath the terrace.
With an 18-hole course designed by Jack Nicklaus Jnr. and a 9-hole Gary Player course, swimming pool, health spa and (of course) wonderful dining, the only problem is leaving!
|Palazzo Arzaga I Architect: J. Nicklaus Jnr. 18 holes: 6062m: par 72.
The 18 hole course designed by Jack Junior has a very American feel to it with huge bunkers and water hazards everywhere you look. The Greens are enormous too - easy to hit, but you can quite easily leave yourself in the dreaded 3-putt country...
|Palazzo Arzaga II Architect: G. Player.
9-holes designed by Gary Player in similar style to Jack's course, although slightly hillier terrain in places. Due for extension to 18 holes at some stage.
Underground you will find the spa area, which although seemingly compact offers a huge range of treatments in addition to its jacuzzi, sauna and hammam.
The range of treatments includes: relaxation massage, anti-ageing, weight-loss, fitness and beauty; all of which are tailor-made according to your desires/needs.
There is a choice of many set programs encompassing
an entire week,
or there is also the 'Spa-for-a-Day' program - just the thing for "testing the water".
