Palace Hotel****

The best-placed hotel in Como - right on the lakeshore from where the whole town is within walking distance and passenger boats ply their trade on the quay.

The Palace hotel is a large establishment with spacious rooms around a central forecourt that also provides some of the parking facilities (there are 30 more spaces in an underground helical automaton behind the hotel - a fascinating piece of equipment).

The hotel's restaurant, 'L'Antica Darsena' forms a secluded corner at one end of the building and has a fairly gastronomic menu although not overly pricey and a very reasonable wine list featuring many products of the local vineyards.

The small two-storey building by the entrance houses the bar upstairs and the ice-cream parlour on the ground floor (well it is Italy!). The sunny patio is the perfect spot to while away an hour or two watching the gentlefolk of Como taking their "passeggiata".

Barchetta Excelsior****

Overlooking the main piazza in Como the rooms at the Barchetta Excelsior hotel have the best view of Lake Como from their balconies (particularly those on the upper floors).

Externally, the modern, angular edifice is not a thing of great beauty but once inside it's a bright, comfortable hotel with helpful, friendly staff.

The restaurant on the ground floor is very good and you will be surrounded by all the other fine restaurants in Como from the Barchetta's very central location.  Each morning you can stock-up for the day's adventures in the glass-fronted breakfast room overlooking the square.

The hotel's position in the centre of town left no room for a car park at the Barchetta, however secure car-parks are nearby, or you may use some of the spaces at their sister hotel the Palace (for a nightly charge).

Metropole & Suisse****

One of the oldest establishments in Como as the old black and white photos on the walls confirm.  Originally two hotels side by side (can you guess their names?) they were joined together in the late 1800's to form one larger hotel.  This is why the room numberings appear slightly illogical and the corridors form unusual shapes.

A classic Italian feel of this family owned and run hotel pervades the building, three generations are to be found behind the scenes busy with every aspect of looking after you during your stay.  The current manager Roberto is also a very keen golfer - so fully understands what we all go through!

Although an historic building, the public areas of the hotel have been refurbished in a fairly up to date style.  The terrace in front of the hotel (where breakfast and dinner is normally served) is right on one of Como's main squares - ideal for watching the world go by.

There is a small garage behind the hotel, other parking is available in a nearby public car-park that has twenty-four hour surveillance.

Due Corti hotel - Lake Como
Le Due Corti****

The oldest (and arguably the quirkiest) hotel in Como that will charm you with a few surprises hidden behind is plain pink façade.

The hotel has been entirely renovated by its charismatic owner Giovanni. He is fiercely proud of the culture of Como and he proclaims his restaurant to be the finest in Como, you will find that many of the guidebooks agree.

The hotel rooms all feature original red brick ceilings and have a unique charm.
The inner courtyard provides parking for the hotel and houses the small pool in front of the restaurant where you may dine al fresco on the warm summer evenings.

Below ground there is a vaulted cellar - ideal for private functions, plus a small wine cellar where wine tastings or dinners can be arranged for groups of up to twenty or so. An ideal place to learn more about the, very palatable, wines of Lombardy.

Tre Re hotel - Lake Como
Le Tre Re***

Inside the walls of Como, the Tre Re Hotel is right in the centre of town.  Although this makes it a little tricky to access by car (the streets are narrow and often crowded) it does offer very good value accommodation in a small Italian family-run hotel.

The bedrooms at the Tre Re are simple affairs, but always kept clean and tidy under the watchful eye of "Mamma".  The hotel has a compact forecourt for parking (intricately!) - an activity in which the staff play a key role everyday.

There is a simple restaurant on the ground floor which serves traditional Italian fare and there is always bar service available in the sitting room.  Just outside, all the other restaurants and cafés of Como lie at your feet.

Bergamo hotels

Bergamo is really a destination in its own right for golf golf holidays around Lake Como. Costantino Rocca's home course of Bergamo l'Albenza has myriad aficionados and it is easy to understand why, with its 27-holes of tranquillity swooping around the Alpine foothills. The town of Bergamo is quite special too with its charming citadel perched above the modern streets spreading below. Getting there is easy too as there are many direct flights into the (Ryan)airport of Orio al Serio, which is only half-an-hour away.

Excelsior San Marco**** - Bergamo

Bergamo offers a lot to see and do, however you need to stay in the right location to get the most out of a short trip to this charming town: we can assure you that the Excelsior San Marco is by far the best placed to stay. It is located in the modern part of town - but just 200yds. from the funicular that elevates you to the old hilltop town in just a few minutes. All the main sights are up here - but perish any thoughts of bringing your car up to these ancient lanes and alleyways! (In any case most of the old town of Bergamo is car-free).

The hotel itself is of modern design and has a surprising number of bedrooms as they spread across several adjoining buildings. The rooms are spacious and traditionally furnished on the lower floors with a slightly more modern and minimalist feel on the upper floors where they offer the best views of the old town.

The highlight of the hotel is the top-floor panoramic restaurant that not only has the best views of Bergamo it also has some of the best food in Bergamo! For these reasons it is frequently booked out, however we can reserve tables for you when you book your golf holiday to ensure you enjoy at least one dinner here. For dining elsewhere there are numerous options both up in the old town and down in the new town.

Getting out to play at Bergamo Golf Club is relatively easy too as the main Como road is not far from the hotel. When you return the hotel has a convenient small car park in front or an under ground car-park (that is locked at night).
