GOLF HOLIDAYS - MAZAGAN & EL JADIDA
The best courses for golfbreaks by the sea in Morocco.

Royal El Jadida golf course Royal El Jadida   Architect: Cabell Robinson (1993).  18 holes: 5,804m: par 72

The 'Old Course' of El Jadida and what a fun course it is!  The single-storey white Clubhouse is right beside the Pullman Hotel with the First Tee directly in front.  From here Royal El Jadida heads off into the ancient forest over quite hilly ground and there is many a twist and turn to the layout as it follows the natural contours of the land, finally emerging again to finish off beside the Atlantic.   A course where control of length and direction is of paramount importance: there are few Tees (if any?!?) where you can automatically reach for the Driver.  Many Greens are tiny and several unusually shaped, so your short game is sure to be tested over the round.  Another feature of the Royal El Jadida course are the unmistakable Araucaria trees, some stunning specimens of this distinctively shaped tree.

Mazagan golf course Mazagan   Architect: G. Player (2010).  18 holes: 6,093m: par 72

A stunning stretch of Atlantic coastline to work with and Mr. Player has done it justice. The course begins in the dense natural forest behind the hotel and winds its way around a few avenues of villas.  From the Sixth onwards it emerges onto the sandy terrain beside the Atlantic that has been gently moulded into a links style course, albeit it with very non-celtic vegetation!  These dozen seaside holes are a very tough test of golf (think carefully about which Tees you choose).  There is always some wind to torment and the bumps and hollows of the Fairways will try to throw your ball off-course and possibly into the deep ragged edged bunkers that continually threaten.  Sensibly however, the Fairways are generous with no real first-cut of rough; just the dreaded 'witches fingers' waiting for you - a trucculent succulent that seems to live on a diet of golf balls...  A great course that you will want (need?) to play more than once.
