The best hotels for golf holidays in Estoril, Cascais and Lisbon

Hotel Palacio***** - Estoril Dating from 1930 the classical Hotel Palácio is a tribute to relaxed formality. Friendly and correct, from the spotlessly uniformed doorman wishing you “Bom Dia” in the morning sunshine to the crisply starched barman pouring you one last “Porto” in the evening glow. The glittering entrance halls, dining rooms, and lounges with their high ceilings and period furnishings are impressive. As are the bedrooms, all with air-conditioning and similar mod-cons. The hotel forms a U-shape around its garden and outdoor pool and flanks the giant Casino do Estoril. The “Four Seasons” restaurant serves a variety of Portuguese and European cuisine. |

In the centre of Cascais overlooking the town’s small beach and harbour the Hotel Baia is close to the town's small square, which is ringed by the liveliest of the towns bars and restaurants – just the spot for night owls... Bedrooms rooms are reasonably sized, air conditioned, and the hotel has a small covered pool on the roof with a patio offering great views over the Estoril coastline. Secure underground car-park directly beneath the hotel (for which there is a small daily fee). |

VilA Gale Cascais**** On the western edge of town, beside the old citadel and the new Marina with it’s shops, restaurants, cafés and bars, the Vila Galé Cascais is in a quieter part of town yet only five minutes on foot to the lively heart of Cascais. The hotel is thoroughly modern having had a full makeover in 2008 to its new burgundy and cream livery. Half of the bedrooms overlook the Ocean, the others the town: there are also plenty of suites. Outside in the private garden there is a pool with plenty of sun-loungers on the surrounding grass to relax away a few post-golf hours. There is a good restaurant and bar in the hotel, with many many more at the nearby Marina or in the centre of Cascais. The hotel also has a private car-park and is on the western edge of town - perfect for getting to Oitavos Dunes and Quinta da Marinha golf courses in no time at all. |

Quinta da Marinha Hotel***** Quinta da Marinha was the first real leisure complex to be developed along the Estoril coast with golf, tennis, swimming pools, hotel and apartments in acres of natural pine forest close to the ocean. This large hotel was fully refurbished in 2007 and upgraded to five-stars. It is now a superbly comfortable establishment sitting at the end of the tenth hole; atrium style with internal spaces reminiscent of Kew Gardens. The bedrooms are very well sized and the central patio has a small pool (there are two huge pools at the Clubhouse). The restaurant runs a self-service buffet dining system every evening. |

Quinta da Marinha - apartments For golfers planning on staying for more than a couple of nights however, we believe that the small apartments strung out between the hotel and the Clubhouse are probably favourable. Available in either one or two en-suite bedroom format they have fully equipped kitchens, sitting rooms and individual gardens. Breakfast is included either at the Clubhouse or at the hotel, as you prefer: as is access to all the other hotel facilities. |

Hotel Albatroz***** The Hotel Albatroz is little golden nugget clasped in the back streets of Cascais. Deceptively small from the outside, until you are aware of the three 17th Century royal residences that are cosseted under the shelter of the new wing. (These villas were commissioned by regular visitors to the Royal Family whose Summer Palace was only a few yards away). The rooms in the new wing are modern and tastefully decorated in keeping with the heritage of the site: those in the villas differ in shape size and design – however all are sumptuously styled. Between the villas a small central courtyard garden has a pool and access to a tiny swimming cove. A very special place to stay. N.B. A further eleven rooms are also available at the "Villa Albatroz" overlooking the quay. |
Tivoli Hotel Sintra**** Should you wish to stay further from the in the cool hills of Sintra the Tivoli hotel, with its wonderful views, makes a great base to combine golf and all the cultural and culinary attractions of this ancient town. You could also stay in the exclusive Palacio de Seteais in Sintra - please call for details. |
