Our selected golf courses: Catalunya - PGA - Costa Brava

PGA Catalunya Stadium golf course

PGA Catalunya - Stadium   Architect: N. Coles & A. Gallardo.  18 holes: 6588m: par 72.
A spectacular and challenging course designed with European Tour events in mind.  From the elevated Clubhouse the course descends through dense pines to the lakes of the lower section where the intricate and extensive water features come into play.  A beautiful challenge for all abilities - not least the Pros.

PGA Catalunya - Tour   Architect: N. Coles & A. Gallardo.  18 holes: 5901m: par 72.
Younger, shorter and slightly easier than the Stadium course. The Tour course is the ideal venue to hone your game before taking on the myriad dangers of its big brother: the Stadium course.  By no means a pushover though, with thick pine forest on the front nine and plenty of water about on the back nine.  Quite hilly, so consider a buggy, especially during the warmer months.

Emporda Forest golf course

EmpordA - Forest   Architect: R. Von Hagge.  18 holes: 6165m: par 72.
Starting in the sunlight the first two holes lead you away from the sanctuary of the Clubhouse into the depths of the pine forest beyond. When the heat is on the cool scented shade they provide is a magical place to play golf. At the far end of the forest you will find (or hopefully not find!) the added complication of a lake or two to cross...
A delightful course, well worthy of its place on the European Tour Qualifying rota.

Emporda Links golf course

EmpordA - Links   Architect: R. Von Hagge.   18 holes: 6160m: par 71.
The original "links" nine have been extended with nine more remarkable holes - some of which are truly spectacular. Perhaps not classical links golf, due to the abundance of sculpted lakes to negotiate, but the rolling terrain and knee-high rough are reminiscent of the best of the celtic links.

Platja de Pals golf course

Platja de Pals   Architect: F. Hawtree.  18 holes: 6222m: par 73.
The oldest club in the area. A level stretch of pine forest close to the sea was transformed by Fred Hawtree into a delightful golfing challenge for all levels of player. Shortish and tight, thick canopies of parasol pines line every fairway and the greens are well defended with sand.
Charming al fresco Clubhouse will entice you to linger longer after your game.

Golf d’Aro (Mas Nou)   Architect: R. Espinosa.  18 holes: 6218m: par 72.
Not for the faint hearted!  Running along hill top ridges, ravines bordering many fairways. Lovely views and well worth investigating if you have the nerve (and sufficient ammo).
Now even better with its fully finished Clubhouse
.

Girona   Architect: F. Hawtree.  18 holes: 6100m: par 72.
The same architect as Platja de Pals but with strikingly different terrain to work with. Just North of Girona this is a hilly course so a buggy is worth considering. Pyrenean panoramas from the clubhouse and many parts of the course.

Peralada
Architect: J. Soler.

18 holes: 6128m: par 72.
A course that will have you thinking on every tee with bunkers seemingly always on a good drive. The terrain is studded with squat olive trees lending an unusual appearance to the course at first sight.

Fabulous new hotel and wine spa on site should you wish to stay "on-course".

Perelada G.C.

Other courses to consider

Costa Brava
Architect: H. Strutt & Co.

18 holes: 5573m: par 70.
The first four holes are a little quirky, after which the course settles down amongst pines and oaks.  Reservations the day before.

Torremirona
A modern layout in a wide bowl in the hills to the North West of Girona.

Costa Brava GC
Torremirona G.C.

Serres de Pals: A new, quite open course which is suited to beginners and higher Handicappers, albeit it with a few testing corners...
