The Tournament Schedule

Castello dal Pozzo - Lake Maggiore

Sunday 21st May

Check-in at the Palazzo dal Pozzo***** an historic palace and castle on the hilltop above Arona looking out over Lake Maggiore.  Competitors will be staying in the Palazzo (there are only eight rooms in the Castello).  See below for more details about the hotel and travel information.

Evening: Reception, tournament registration and welcome dinner in the Palazzo's Le Fief restaurant (wines included).

Castelconturnia Golf Club

Monday 22nd May

Morning: First competition round at Castelconturbia G.C.

One of Piemonte's most exclusive Golf Clubs dating back to 1898.  27 heavily wooded holes styled by Robert Trent Jones Snr. around the delightful yellow ochre Clubhouse.  Castelconturbia has twice hosted the Italian Open.

Castelconturbia G.C. is about half-an-hour from the Palazzo.

Afternoon and evening: at leisure.

Iles Borromées golf course

Tuesday 23rd May

Morning: Second competition round at Iles Borromées G.C.

A more recent addition to the Lake Maggiore golf scene that rides around the hills and forests of the National Park between Lake Maggiore and Lake Orta.  A few climbs and descents create some spectacular holes and wonderful views of the Alps and the lakes.

Iles Borromées G.C. is about twenty minutes from the Palazzo.

Afternoon and evening: at leisure.

Wednesday 24th May

A full day off to relax and soak up the beauty of Lake Maggiore and the surrounding hills.

In Arona or Stresa you can catch the frequent ferries out to Lake Maggiore's islands - Isole Bella, Madre and Pescatore for a stroll through their palaces and gardens or savour the flavours of one of their many restaurants.

You could also head off for a tour of the lake-shore or up and over through the national park to charming little Lake Orta.

Isola Bella - Lake Maggiore

Thursday 25th May

Morning: Third competition round at Bogogno G.C.

Designed by Robert van Hagge in 1997 Bogogno feels a lot older due to the dense mature woodland that lines every hole.  There are two excellent courses around the fashionable rose Clubhouse; we will be playing the Bonora layout, which wanders through the forest and far from the Clubhouse down to the river and back again.

Bogogno G.C. is about half-an-hour from the Palazzo.

Evening: Reception and prize-giving dinner in the Castello dal Pozzo - a unique opportunity to dine in a genuine Italian castle!

Castello dal Pozzo

The Castello dal Pozzo sits in its own park just outside the village of Oleggio Castello on the hillside above Arona and Lake Maggiore.  The ancient Castello has a long history dating back to Roman times and a base of the Fifth Legion.  Thought to have originated around the year 1000 it has been remodeled and restructured a few times since, gaining its current form in the mid-1800's.  The Castello is now widely recognised as one of the finest examples of neo-gothic architecture.  You will be more than welcome to visit (with a guide if you like) during the week.

The Palazzo was added beside the Castello in the 17th Century as a residence for the Viscount of Aragaon (who is buried in the local cemetery).  Both buildings have has been owned by the Dal Pozzo family for the last six-generations.  The Palazzo has a varied history having served in recent times as billets during the wars and as the local school thereafter.  After a period of disuse the Palazzo has been extended and converted into a luxury boutique hotel with contemporary bedrooms mixed with traditional areas such as the lounge bar and restaurant.  One of Italy's growing band of boutique hotels that is superbly placed for visiting Lake Maggiore and discovering its golfing possibilities.
