Golf in the USA: Brave the New WorldThe United States of America is a wonderful golfing playground. Wherever you travel there are literally hundreds of golf courses and although there are a few very private establishments (Augusta for example) the vast majority are only too pleased to welcome visitors. Americans are very focused on customer service, so from the moment you arrive at the Club to the moment you leave they will go out of their way to make sure that you "have a nice day". Buggies (carts) are very nearly compulsory, however you may walk - although you may have some trouble convincing the staff that golf is a game often played on foot! Out on the course there is always a drinks service that circulates, just what you need as temperatures can climb into the 100's. In fact in Arizona some Clubs even have air-conditioned buggies! With so many courses to choose from standards have to be high to survive. There is an abundance of land on this huge continent and some of the golfing layouts sweep across vast tracts of wild terrain; others are residential developments with high quality housing backing onto the fairways. In the warmer regions the courses are generally constructed of Bermuda style grasses - which take a little getting used to (especially the rough). Many courses however use Bent grasses on their huge roller-coaster Greens - slick is not the word... But wherever you play, golf in America is just great fun!
