Golf holidays - Rimini

Rimini beach parasols

Clear Adriatic waters, long sandy beaches, sunshine, pasta, wine and golf: what's not to like?

The Emilia Romagna beaches are some of the longest in the world: mile after mile of soft sands spread north and south of Rimini, lapped by the azure waters of the Adriatic.  In the Summer months the beaches are festooned with the sunbeds and parasols of the beach clubs; every square inch taken by an Italian soaking up the golden rays.  If you are intent on a golfbreak with a heavy bent on relaxation (golf, lunch, snooze in the sun, long languid dinner) then a golf holiday on Italy's Adriatic coast is the place for you.

Rimini Golf Clubs

There are three Rimini Golf Clubs, all are parkland layouts, yet each has distinguishing features from the others.  The 'big' Club in the area is The Adriatic (aka Cervia) where there are plenty of Members, plenty of money and twenty-seven holes of solid parkland golf.  It lies close to Milano-Marittima, where the flashier Italian likes to be seen in the Summer, but the Golf Club has a rather traditional feel - despite the glamour all around!

The toughest test in the prettiest setting is to be found inland from Rimini on the way towards San Marino at, the very simple, Verucchio Golf Club.  Totally unpretentious, but with one of the great layouts amidst architypical Italian scenery.  If you enjoy playing surrounded by quiet countryside - look no further!

Rimini Verruchio golf course

Rimini's third Golf Club lies to the South and is a modern resort complex with a hotel on-site.  The course offers a wide variety of holes with an open section of broad Fairways across level terrain and a more densely forested second section across and around a few small hills.  Altogether it offers a very enjoyable day out, not more than half-an-hour from Rimini: well worth the excursion.

Where to stay - Rimini, Milano Marittima, Cesenatico

There are towns all along the Rimini coastline so the choice of where to base your holiday can seem a little confusing at first!  However, we have travelled the full length of the beaches and visited every town, so we can recommend the right place for your golf party.

Rimini is the biggest town on the coast and the epicentre of all activities.  In the Summer it attracts quite  a young, party crowd so evenings can be very lively with bars and restaurants full of high-spirited folk heading for the all-night clubs to rave until dawn.  Spring and Autumn are much more serene and Rimini becomes a very different animal.  At this time of year the streets and hotels are much quieter (and bette value) and there is time and space to stroll and enjoy the sea-air, an Adriatic cappucino or investigate the old part of town around the fort and Tiberius' bridge.

Rimini old town

Milano Marittima is another option and very handily placed for the twenty-seven holes at Adriatic G.C.  The town itself is a more modern development and attracts a well-heeled, youngish crowd who are keen to be seen in their finery by the beach.  There are a multitude of cafés and designer boutiques strung along the streets for the all-important passegiata - an evening stroll prior to dinner at a fashionable restaurants (of which there are plenty).  Another very seasonal town though with peace returning in September - when the weather is perfect for golf, plus you might even pick-up a bargain or two in the sales!

Milano Marrittima

Cesenatico, without a doubt, is our favourite place to stay around Rimini.  A much smaller town that straddles the Venarella canal and stretches along both sides of it.  Here the clientele is almost exclusively Italian and in the restaurants that line the (traffic-free) estuary quayside, you will be treated to some of the finest seasonal seafood that money can buy.  For a beachside, gourmet golfbreak, Cesenatico ticks all the boxes!

Rimini - what to see and do

Unusually for Italy, culture vultures will find scant pickings in this rather hedonistic part of the country.  The old town of Rimini holds the only historic sights in the region with its well preserved fortress, church and Roman bridge: a nice compact area for an afternoon's strolling.

The main sights and activities centre around the beaches, so relax and enjoy the radiant sun (in moderation of course) or sit in the shade of a parasol and watch the world go by safe in the knowledge that you are not abrogating your sightseeing duties!

Punta Ala beach chairs

The cuisine is as good as anywhere else in Italy i.e. favoloso!  There are hundreds, if not thousands of good restaurants all the way from Cervia in the North to Cattolica in the South.  Fresh fish and seafood is landed all along this coastline every morning, so you will have your fill of Omega 3 before you leave!  As always, w shall recommend our favourites to you along with your tickets.

Getting to Rimini

In the height of the Summer there are a few direct flights into Rimini's little airport.  However, in the quieter times it is necessary to land at Bologna and drive down to Rimini for your golf holiday; alternatively, we can arrange chauffeured transfers for you if you prefer?
