Golf Holidays in the USA: Brave the New World

Golf in Arizona (Grayhawk)

The United States of America is a wonderful playground for golf holidays.  Wherever you travel there are literally hundreds of golf courses and although there are a few very private establishments (Augusta for example) the vast majority of Golf Clubs are only too pleased to welcome visitors.  Americans are very focused on customer service, so from the moment you arrive at the Club to the moment you leave they will go out of their way to make sure that you "have a nice day".

Buggies (carts) are very nearly compulsory, however you may walk - although you may have some trouble convincing the staff that golf is a game often played on foot!  Out on the course there is always a drinks service that circulates, just what you need as temperatures can climb into the 100's.  In fact in Arizona some Clubs even have air-conditioned buggies!

With so many golf courses to choose from standards have to be high to survive.  There is an abundance of land on the huge continent of North America and some of the golfing layouts sweep across vast tracts of wild terrain; others are residential developments with high quality housing backing onto the fairways.

In the warmer regions the golf courses are generally sown with Bermuda style grasses - which take a little getting used to (especially the rough).  However, many Golf Clubs use Bent grasses (or variations thereof) on their huge roller-coaster Greens - slick is not the word...

Wherever you decide upon for your American golf holiday, y'all have a whole lotta fun!

Golf holidays in Arizona - Phoenix and Scottsdale

A golfing fantasy land in the warmth and practically guaranteed sunshine of the Arizona desert.  Unbelievable courses where golf architecture has been seemingly sprayed onto the hot sands.
The perfect winter getaway and incredible value in late Autumn as the Bermuda turns dormant and the Americans prefer not to play as the rough and fairways take on a brownish tinge.  Silly really as the courses are perfectly playable - in many regards the definition of the holes is even better: make hay while the sun shines we say!

Golf holidays in Alabama - Robert Trent Jones Trail

Many parts of Alabama are still frontierland with vast expanses of forest and marshlands still unbesmirched by the heavy hand of humandevelopments.  This makes for beautifully peaceful courses with just the wildlife and the crack of titanium on polyurethane-ionomer to rupture the stillness.
Southern hospitality is legendary and rightly so, wherever you travel across this charming State people will welcome you with broad smiles and a genuine interest in you, your golf and your enjoyment of Alabama.
