THE BEST GOLF COURSES FOR HIGHLAND GOLF HOLIDAYS
Our selected courses for Speyside & Boat of Garten golfbreaks.

Boat of Garten golf course Boat of Garten  Architect: Sir A. Dunbar (1899)  18 holes: 6,765yds: par 72.

If there is a more scenic golf course in Scotland we would like to know where!  Boat of Garten is tucked away in the Highlands, close to Aviemore (famous for its ski slopes) and less than an hour from Inverness.  A round here should be included in any trip to the Highlands.  Even without the awe inspiring backdrop of the Cairngorms these 18-holes would delight and entertain any golfer, on a clear blue day it's Scottish golf heaven.  And on your way back to Inverness, there's a wee distillery or two along the high road...

Grantown on Spey golf course Grantown on Spey  Architect: W. Ferrie (1895) 18 holes: 6,289yds: par 71.

A superb Scottish course that you may never have heard of?  Grantown on Spey offers an entertaining variety of golf being part open, part forest and part heatherbound.  The course starts gently, then dips in and out of the forest and through acres of dense heather - no two holes are remotely similar!  Great fun, a good test and a warm welcome at a sensible Green-fee: what more could you want?

Kingussie golf courseKingussie   Architect: Unknown (1851)   18 holes: 6,910yds: par 71

Real Highland golf awaits you (behind the caravan park) at Kingussie.  Surrounded by the Cairngorms and and Mondlaith mountains you climb up away from the diminutive Clubhouse (was it once a railway station?) into the hills with some gentle and some exacting holes, but always with stunning views.  The early holes cling to the hillsides, stitched on with bracken it seems.  The latter part of the course extends through a lush valley between mighty pines, so you can relax - a little!

SPEY VALLEY   Architect: G. Morris (1999)   18 holes: 6,846yds: par 72

The big test in the Highlands running alongside the river Spey for its full length.  Spey Valley is a serious test of golf with big Bunkers, large, fast Greens with plenty of borrow and plenty of water too!  It also differs from the other courses in the Cairngorms as it has a more 'engineered' feel when compared the other Highland golf courses which seem to have been created by the Gods.  Close to the centre of Aviemore and with a modern resort hotel on-site.
