In the centre of Strasbourg, an hotel that has an enormous amount of open, green-space for a city centre hotel; this makes Les Haras by far the most enjoyable place to stay in Strasbourg.  Once-upon-a-time the royal stables (hence the availability of prime real-estate!); now the ancient buildings have been transformed into a modern luxury hotel by Alsace-Lorraine's foremost hotel family.

Bedrooms at Les Haras are spread across two wings of the central courtyard (the old hacking ground) and there are a few more in a small annexe over the road (or under the road using the spa tunnel).  They are all bright and modern, furnished with wood and upholstered in leather to reflect the hotel's equine heritage; bathrooms are of a similar high standard.

There is wood-lined bar beside Reception on the ground floor, although most refreshments are taken out in the spacious courtyard where waiter-service will save you the strain of having to walk to the bar!  Across the quadrangle is the restaurant which has a lovely rustic feel, composed almost entirely of exposed beams woven into an intricate structure ho support its mighty roof.  The cuisine is equal to the setting by the way!

A nice, and maybe unexpected, extra is Les Haras' pool and spa area.  Tucked away underground it has saunas and steam rooms, a small pool and the full gamut of treatments available for some post-golf pampering.
Aside from all these comforts, Les Haras has the perfect location for golfers too: a five-minute stroll into the heart of old Strasbourg with all of its sights, bars and restaurants yet close to the arterial routes that will whisk you away to the Golf Clubs in no time at all.  And whan you get back' a very nice man will park yuor car for you.

Le Kempferhof****

2023 update: Le Kempferhof is currently undergoing a total revamp with its new owners spending an awful lot of money to completely overhaul the property. Below is how it used to look: watch this space for details of its reopening and its new look.

Le Kempferhof is one of those rare golfing gems that one comes across from time-to-time.  Wreathed in trees, it sits in splendid isolation on the banks of the Rhine: a perfect spot to 'get away from it all'.

Accommodation at le Kempferhof comes in two forms: Standard rooms in the small extension on one side of the château or Château rooms in the quaint old château itself.
Standard rooms have been very well designed in a two-storey wood-clad construction that is very much in sympathy with the surrounding forest.  The bedrooms have large bathrooms that open right-up with sliding doors making the bedrooms feel very spacious.  Plus they all have a wooden balcony/patio adding extra outdoor space to the rooms.

Château rooms are very individual with no two being alike either in terms of shape, decor or furnishings.  Suffice to say that they are all very comfortable and very stylish too!  There is also a fabulous Presidential Suite in the square turret that is quite unique and offers superb views out over the golf course.

On the ground floor in the château you will find the bar and choice of restaurants.  There is a brasserie for lunchtime dining that occupies a sunny location in the conservatory and is often open for dinner as well.  Plus there is the ever-so-slightly more formal restaurant that is open for more gastronomic dinners.  As you night imagine, the quality and variety of the menu in both restaurants is excellent.
